The Denison Golf Club Undergoes Renovations, Reopens April 2017

The Denison Golf Club is opening for business in mid-April. The historic course, which was gifted to the University in 2014, has been brought back to its earlier standard of excellence, while a renovated club house will offer a congenial place to gather for beverages and refreshments before and after tee time. Denison University has entered into agreement with Columbus Hospitality Management to manage and oversee renovations of the Club.

Denison Golf Club of Granville was designed in 1924 by world famous Scottish golf course architect Donald Ross. Noted as one of the best public courses in the Midwest, the course has 63 artfully placed sand bunkers, as well as elevated and undulating greens. Renovations to the course began last fall when the club closed early to begin the repairs and reseeding. Upgrades also include a modernized club house, updates to the irrigation system, bunker renovations and a tree replacement program.

"The Denison Golf Club is a real treasure for central Ohio," said Denison University Vice President of Finance and Management David English. "We are thrilled to partner with Columbus Hospitality to manage this historic property and help us to return it to, and perhaps even surpass, its glory days that are so fondly remembered by golfers across the nation."

"This is going to be a spectacular club," said Columbus Hospitality Management's Chief Operating Officer Kathryn Burton. "The upgrades we are making to the course and club house will provide golfers and guests with an exceptional experience. The updated Denison Golf Club as well as the historic and recently revitalized Granville Inn will only add to Granville's appeal as a unique and popular destination for central Ohio residents as well as travelers from across the region."

Columbus Hospitality Management hired Don Berberick as the new general manager and director of golf. Berberick is a PGA member with more than 27 years of experience in the golf business, primarily at private golf facilities. He brings a high level of management and customer service, tournament operations and a strong desire to maximize the guest experience to the Denison Golf Club.

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead the Denison Golf Club into the next phase in its history," said Berberick. "It is going to be a truly spectacular course and I am excited to reintroduce it to the local Granville and Denison community as well as golfers from across the region."

A husband and a father of two children living in Lewis Center, Ohio, Berberick's resume of qualifications includes some of Central Ohio's premier facilities: Worthington Hills, The Medallion Club, The Lakes Golf & Country Club, Scioto Reserve Country Club, Kinsale Golf and Fitness Club and NorthStar Golf Club. Other notable facilities include Innisbrook Resort, Disney Resorts and Golf Digest Schools in Florida. An accomplished instructor and youth golf advocate, he utilizes the latest in launch monitor and 3D sensor technologies in his teaching of clients.

The Denison Golf Club is set to reopen mid-April 2017. Traditional golf memberships are now available for purchase by calling the club at (740) 587-4653 or (740) 587-0843.
